Auckland time explained
New Zealand runs twelve hours ahead of UTC, thirteen during daylight saving from late September to early April. It is among the first inhabited places to enter each new day, which is why New Year is broadcast from here before almost anywhere else.
Auckland does observe daylight saving, so its offset from UTC changes twice a year. The time above already accounts for whichever is currently in force.
Reaching Auckland
Auckland is ahead of very nearly everywhere, so calls to Europe land either very early in the Auckland day or in the previous evening from the other side. Australia and the Pacific are the easy directions.
