What a 25 minute timer is for

Twenty-five minutes is one Pomodoro: a single block of focused work with no interruptions, followed by a five-minute break. It is the most widely used unit of deliberate concentration there is.

What people set it for

How this timer behaves

The countdown is stored as the moment it should finish, not as a number being decremented, so switching tabs or minimising the window cannot make it run late, and pausing and resuming is exact. Through the final minute the readout and its ring turn red and pulse, giving you a warning before the alert rather than only at it.

It does not start on its own. The alarm is generated in your browser, and browsers keep audio silent until you interact with the page — so a timer that started by itself would be a timer that finished in silence. One tap on start is what makes the sound work.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

Work for twenty-five minutes with no interruptions, then take a five-minute break, and after four rounds take a longer break of fifteen to thirty minutes. The point is that the interval is short enough to protect from distraction and long enough to get somewhere.

What should I do when it rings?

Stop, even mid-sentence, and take the break away from the screen. The method works because the breaks are real; skipping them turns it back into ordinary working.

Can I pair it with background sound?

Yes — the speaker icon opens eleven ambient soundscapes including three focus presets, all generated live in your browser rather than streamed.
